Shirley Elaine Peters

Shirley Elaine Peters, age 85, of Zanesville, Ohio and formerly of Cicero, IN, died Friday July 15,2016 at Genesis Health Care Center at Zanesville, OH. She was born December 9, 1930 at New Bedford, MA to Pleasant Virgil and Orpha (Gandy) Harris. Shirley earned her Master of Science Degree at Ball State University and was a special education teacher at Anderson Community Schools and for the Middletown School Corporation. She was a member of First Christian Church at Noblesville, IN, Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association, Food & Fashions Extension Homemakers Club and Puckihuddlers Rug Hooking Association, and ATHA, the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists. She married Norman Virgil Peters on December 18, 1949. He preceded her in death February 8, 2004. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother: Bronson Ora Harris and a sister: Betty J. Young. Surviving her are two sons: Norman Kent Peters of Silver Springs, MD and Jay Robert Peters of Simi Valley, CA, a daughter Katherin G. Heins of Zanesville, OH, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Graveside rites will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
