Cicero, Indiana
Sandra "Sandi" Kay (Browning) Bergstrom, 65, of Cicero, IN passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 24, 2014. She was born June 13, 1949 at Alva, Kentucky, the daughter of Lorene (Eads) Browning and Estel Thomas Browning. Sandi moved to Indiana with her family in 1953. She attended grade school and junior high school in Cicero and Arcadia. In 1967 Sandi graduated from Hamilton Heights High School with triple honors. During her school years, Sandi was involved in academic clubs and social activities. In the years that followed graduation, Sandi remained active with her fellow alumni and took special pleasure in helping co-ordinate their high school reunions. Sandi retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance (previously Safco and American States) after 42 years of service in 2009. Early in her career, Sandi was transferred to Orlando, Florida. It was there she met her husband, Andrew "Bud" Bergstrom, whom she married December 29, 1973 at a ceremony in Noblesville. Over her career, Sandi's promotions at work took the couple to assignments at Springfield, Ohio and Sioux Falls, South Dakota before returning to the Indianapolis area in the 1990's. During their 40 year marriage, Sandi and Bud enjoyed extensive road trips around the United States and Canada, as well as a variety of cruise vacations in the Caribbean and Alaska. Sandi loved her family and friends. A terrific cook, she delighted in bringing home made dishes and baked goods to social get togethers and family reunions. Sandi's passion the past 10 years has been working with HOOP-Help Our Own People-a charitable organization that provides food for the homeless on the streets of Indianapolis. Starting as a volunteer, delivering food and necessities, Sandi's natural leadership qualities lead her to the position of Treasurer, a capacity in which she served for the past 5 years. Sandi was especially proud of the strong connections made with her civic minded friends in the HOOP organization--people, who, like she, were dedicated to making a real difference in the community on a grassroots basis. Sandi is survived by her husband of 40 years: Andrew "Bud" Bergstrom, brothers: Mondal (Gloria) Browning of Madison, IN, Coy (Sue) Browning of Cicero, IN, and Gary (Vicki) Browning of Arcadia, IN, sisters-in-law: Blair Bergstrom and Tewy Bergstrom of New Smyrna Beach, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Estel Thomas Browning, her mother: Lorene Browning Blankenship, her step-father, George "Pete" Blankenship, and her brothers: Denver Browning and Tommy Browning.
