Ricky Eugene Cassell age 71, of Arcadia, IN passed away January 20, 2022 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born September 26, 1950 at Anderson, Indiana to Eugene James and Helen Louise (Morgan) Cassell. After being educated in Madison County Schools he joined the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam as a combat Infantryman. He was severely injured during his tour of duty there. He was awarded the Purple Heart for valor and injuries he sustained. He suffered from those injuries the rest of his life, but never complained of his service to his country. He attended Veterans Day Programs at Hamilton Heights Schools sharing some of his times in the military with his grandchildren and their classmates who were students there.
He was a hard worker and in his civilian life he traveled to many places as he worked in industrial construction. He was known by those he worked with and associated with that he had a servant's heart and irregardless of the task at hand he would do anything to help others. He did many things behind the scenes, not wanting recognition or praise. Ricky usually had projects in the works that included making indoor and outdoor lawn furniture.
Leisure time would find him fishing, boating, wood working, wood burning, sketching and drawing. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, driving remote control vehicles, and being with family, especially the grandchildren.
He attended Omega Christian Church where he helped with projects. Recently he built the risers for the children to stand on when they provided programs for the congregation.
He married Tonya Rae (Ebert) Cassell September 12, 2001. She survives him. Also surviving are sons: Christopher John Cassell of Boiling Springs, SC, Jason Andrew Leapley of Franklin, IN, daughters: Cherlyl Renee Smith of Kingsland, GA, and Sandra Michelle Miller of Atlanta, IN, brother: Mark Cassell of Noblesville, IN and a sister Gloria Johnson of Arcadia, IN, plus 7 grandchildren.
His parents and a sister, Penny Lynn Cassell preceded him in death.
