Cicero, Indiana
Martha Ann Thomas Clanton passed away quietly surrounded by loving family and friends on December 31, 2014. She was born February 6, 1933 to Mary G. (Gretchen) and John B. Thomas. She was lifelong resident of Cicero, Indiana, and was a member of the 1952 class of Jackson Central High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at the downtown Blocks for several years before settling in at Dow Chemical until she retired 1994. Martha loved her town and her church where she sang in the choir and volunteered many hours to church activities. Martha was a lifetime member of The Cicero Order of Eastern Star #541, serving as worthy matron in 1970, and other offices. She was also a granddaughter of a Civil War veteran. She enjoyed cooking and was well-known for her dedication to precision in the kitchen. She especially enjoyed getting together with a group of friends for breakfast or lunch at Erica's Place on Jackson Street in Cicero. Martha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ritchie Lee and Kathy Clanton, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (with another on the way). Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ritchie D Thomas. She is also survived by many loving cousins and neighbors who looked out for her. Martha was always kind and generous. Her robust spirit and sense of humor will be missed deeply. Visitation will be held at the Cicero United Methodist Church, 100 E Jackson ST, Cicero, on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 3 to 4 p.m. followed by a memorial service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martha's name to the Cicero United Methodist Church, PO Box 617, Cicero IN 46034-0617.
