Lois L. Riggs

Lois L. Riggs, age 92, of Zionsville, IN died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Maple Park Village at Westfield, IN. She was born November 8, 1918 at Russellville, IN to Rafe and Wanita (Ratcliff) McGaughey.

She graduated from Russellville High School, then earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Purdue University followed by a Master's Degree at Ball State University. Both degrees were in the field of education. She taught middle and high school grades at Walnut Grove School and Southeastern Schools. Lois was a member of Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association, Cicero Eastern Star, Noblesville Evening Rotary Club, and Russellville Community Church. She attended Little Eagle Creek Christian Church and Hinkle Creek Friends Church.

She had been a 4-H leader for many years and a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital. Lois enjoyed gardening,reading and homemaking.

She married Robert William Riggs who preceded her in death March 20, 2008. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by to brothers: Edgar and John McGaughey.

Surviving her is a daughter: Margie Purcell of Oscoda, MI, three sons: David (Lee Ellen) Riggs of Lebanon, IN, Paul (Kathy) Riggs of Dallas, TX, and James (Mary Sue) Riggs of Westfield, IN, two sisters: Lillis Grimes of Crawfordsville, IN and Evelyn Gross of Greenwood, IN, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Little Eagle Creek Christian Church with Pastor Stephen Yarborough officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. prior to the services also at the Church. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery at Russellville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Eagle Creek Christian Church. Arrangements are entrusted with Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel. Visitation
