Cicero, Indiana
Katherine Lynn Garrity. age 33, of Arcadia, Indiana passed away January 28, 2021 at home after a seven month battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born April 13, 1988 at Noblesville, Indiana to Terence (Terry) and Susan Garrity. She grew up in the Arcadia community and after being homeschooled graduated from Ball State University in 2013 with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in blown glass. She took additional coursework at Pilchuck Glass School, Washington, and the Corning Glass Museum, New York. In 2017 she earned certification as a Certified Surgery Technician from Indiana University and until her passing she was employed as a traveling surgery technician. She also previously taught at the Indianapolis Arts Center and was a substitute teacher for Carmel Clay School Corporation. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Carmel.
She loved to travel and by age 33 had been to most states in the United States and on pilgrimage to Italy. She was a gifted artist and had hoped to one day open her own glass studio. Katie loved animals, especially birds, her cats and two pet bearded dragons. She constantly sought out new experiences, including flying, violin, and most recently mountain hiking, skydiving, and snow skiing. She loved both ocean and mountains and she most loved her life in Montana where she lived on a ranch and worked as a surgery technician at a Billings hospital.
She deeply loved all family and she was very sentimental. Regardless of where her job took her, Katie never missed an opportunity to be with family at Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as the traditional annual wine bottling gathering. Likewise she loved her friends dearly and when not prodding them was always giving of herself to both friends and family. She had a particular gift for bringing people together and bringing out their best.
Katie, as she was most affectionately known, tellingly was born to the Foreigner song I've Been Waiting For a Girl Like You playing in the delivery room at birth April, 1988. She grew to drink deeply the wine from God's vineyard. In life she grew to become a vivacious but warm and kind free spirit who deeply touched the lives of everyone she knew. You simply could not encounter Kate for any length of time and not be amused by her sometimes sardonic wit but ultimately you'd be infected by the love she effused for giving of herself for her love of others.
Surviving are parents Terry and Susan Garrity, a brother Daniel Garrity and her grandmother Norma Jean Tharp as well as numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
