Jerry Waterman

–

Cicero, Indiana

Jerry Waterman, age 82, of Noblesville, Indiana passed away March 27, 2013 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born April 4, 1930 at Noblesville, the fourth child and eldest son of Ralph and Lelah (Creekmore) Waterman.

He attended Bethleham School and Fortville High School. He farmed alongside his father and brothers as a youth. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He then purchased his own farm in 1955 in Noblesville Township, located less than three miles from his birthplace.

He was employed by Central Indiana Gas Company in Anderson, Indiana, now known as Indiana Gas Company in 1957. He retired in 1990. He was affectionately known by his co-workers as "Doc", the "Doctor of Motors."

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Noblesville, Indiana.

He married Mary Alice (Heinzmann) Waterman on June 25, 1954. With the help of their fathers, they built the home in which they resided together for 52 years prior to Mary Alice's death in 2006. Surviving Jerry are six children, Jerry L. (Serrie) Waterman of Alexandria, Jenny (David) Wade of Arcadia, Joani (Terry) Lawson of Noblesville, Jocie (Jody) Lynch of Tipton, Jerald (Stephanie) Waterman of Noblesville, Jayson (Karen) Waterman of Connersville. In addition are 18 grandchildren, Angela Smith, Stacy Waterman, Molli Swinford, Jess Lawson, Jake, Joshua, Jerica, Josiah, Jenna and Jayni Waterman of Noblesville, Daniel Lawhorn of Arcadia, Holly Garber of Cicero, Jeremy Waterman of Lafayette, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Anna, Joseph and Kathy Waterman of Connersville, and 9 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his siblings, Joy Johnson, June Landis, Jean Layton, Janet Wilson, Jake Waterman, Jane Christman all of Noblesville; John Waterman of New Castle, Julia Ann Sigler of Cicero and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers Jack Waterman and Joe Waterman, a daughter-in-law Darlene Waterman as well as several unborn angel grandbabies.

Mr. Waterman was a talented repairman. He was adept with tools and had the ability to build or design almost anything. His prowess at repair work kept the family's farm machinery operating in top form. He designed and built several items to help around the house and his church. In his senior years, he enjoyed tractor restoration as a hobby.

He was a quiet, observant man, whose sound advice was sought out by friends and family throughout his lifetime. His wisdom, generosity and gentle ways were greatly admired and will be sorely missed by those who were blessed to have shared life with him. He left school in order to help his father and grandfather on the family farm and had no regrets in doing so, considering it an honor and a privilege to work alongside them. He was strong and tireless, and his greatest legacy to his family was the dedication and love shown to his wife in caring for her in their home throughout her illness and disability until her death. He was a man who kept his promises, loved his family, and quietly served and honored the Lord throughout his life. His own doctor once described Jerry as "the gentleman with the angel's face."
