George Roy Carter

George Roy Carter, age 88, of Tipton, Indiana died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his home. He was born December 20, 1921 at Caney, Oklahoma to William Martin and Julia Mary (White) Carter.

He attended the University of Louisville at Louisville, Kentucky for two years before joining the armed forces where he served his country 23 years in the Army and the Air Force. He later became a life insurance agent for Commonwealth Life Insurance and worked for them 23 years also.

George was a member of First Presbyterian Church at Tipton, Tipton American Legion, Elwood VFW, Kokomo and Tipton Moose Lodges, Franklin Eastern Star and Edinburg Masonic Lodge #100.

He married Ada Mae (Barker) Carter on December 25, 1942. She preceded him in death September 5, 2001. Surviving him is a son and his wife: Kenneth M. (Ralona) Carter of Florida, grandchildren: Cynthia Carter of Indianapolis, Michael Carter of Virginia, and Brian Carter of Minnesota, great-grandchildren: Holly Bumgardner, Jessica Bumgardner, Katherine Carter and Lucas Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel with Pastor Linda Philabaun officiating. Burial will follow at the Arcadia Cemetery.
