Donald Eugene Essig

Donald Eugene Essig, 87, of Tipton, IN died November 13, 2014 at I.U. Health Tipton Hospital. He was born January 19, 1927 at Noblesville, IN to Garland and Thelma (Carson) Essig. Don was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School with the Class of 1945. He then served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Don was a respected banker and was first employed at Hamilton County Bank at Arcadia, IN. He then worked for several years at Farmers Loan and Trust at Tipton, IN and retired from there as Vice President. Not content with retirement, he then worked for a few more years at Steel Parts Credit Union, also at Tipton. After retirement, Don liked to spend time at the family farm and was often accompanied by his grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Men's Bowling Association. Additional lifetime memberships included The Elks Club, Moose Lodge and the American Legion, all of Tipton, IN. Surviving him are two sons: Gary (Rosie) Essig of Laredo, TX and Larry (Cindy) Essig of Arcadia, IN. brothers: Leon Essig of Arcadia, IN and Alan Essig of Indianapolis, IN, and a sister: Marietta Love of McClean, VA, grandchildren: Elizabeth Marshall and Brian Essig, great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Alexander Marshall and Amelia Essig. His parents preceded him in death. Private memorial services will be held at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel with Pastor Neal Brown officiating. Burial will occur at Fairview Cemetery at Tipton.
