Charles Robert Stapleton

Charles Robert Stapleton, age 86, of Cicero, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus.

He was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia on July 22, 1937, to the late Andrew and Noy (Ewing) Stapleton.

Charles married Shirley Ann (Lamb) Stapleton on July 23, 1960, and they shared nearly 64 years of marriage together.
He retired in 1990 from Conrail after many years of service as a rail car repairman. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening and loved his Cincinnati Reds. He will be remembered as a very religious man, a caring husband, a loving father, and a loving Papaw.
In addition to his wife, Shirley Ann Stapleton, Charles is survived by his granddaughter, Kenzie Nicole Hale of Cicero; grandson, Evan Robert Hale of Cicero; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Debra Kay Stapleton, and Patricia Lynn (husband Robert Martin) Hale; two brothers, Willard and Jerry Stapleton; and three sisters, Lorrean Thomas, Geneva Napier, and Jeanette Stapleton.

Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034. A service to honor and celebrate Charles life will begin at 3 pm on Saturday at the funeral home with Stephen Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Cicero Cemetery.
