Betty Frances Berger

Betty Frances Berger, age 85, of Tempe, AZ but formerly of the Arcadia area died June 3, 2010 at Plaza Healthcare at Tempe. She was born August 4, 1924 at Arcadia, IN to Glenn and Ethel Lucille (Whisman) Gunning.

She was a graduate of Arcadia High School. Following graduation she enrolled in Indianapolis City Hospital Nursing School and became a Registered Nurse. She then furthered her education by enrolling at Lincoln Christian College at Lincoln, IL where she graduated with honors. She moved to Phoenix, AZ where she married Edward F. Berger who later became a pastor. Together they served several Christian Churches in Arizona and also served as missionaries in Mexico. Betty also continued nursing, first in a medical facility and later doing private duty nursing. She devoted her nursing skills mostly to the terminally ill, mentally ill, and seriously ill children. She continuously studied and collected a small medical library. She never gave up her passion of helping others mentally, physically, and spiritually.

She was a member of Tempe Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Edward F. Berger of Tempe, AZ, Sister: Vonda L. Pruitt and husband Gale of Lafayette, IN and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents is a brother: Basil Gunning and a sister Miriam Ehman.
